12-years later, Anambra governor-elect, Cee-Cee Soludo has told a story of how Okpoko, a slum in Ogbaru local government area first caught his attention when he visited the area during the state governorship campaign in 2010. It is a suburb where over 2 million people are trapped, suffers from the agony of living below poverty line and live a life of eking out living to survive on daily basis.
Although few are said to have managed to escape the poverty line in Okpoko and become successful in their different endeavors, the town is still the same slum lacking the basic amenities of life such as clean water, quality and access road, clean air, safe affordable housing and heathy foods, among others.
Fast forward to 2022, Cee-Cee Soludo has reiterated his readiness to visit the slum of Okpoko on Friday, March 18, 2022; a day after his inauguration as a Governor. He had during the 2021 governorship campaign assured of his administration’s commitment to start governance from “Okpoko” where other “Nwa Mgbafors” are left to pass through the scorches of life. He will also give a special disruptive attention to “Fegge” in Onitsha North.
By the visit, it will be the beginning of a new dawn and fulfilment of his social contract to deliver a liveable and prosperous homeland. His government has made the suburb a priority and will charge revelant agencies to immediately distribute equal and uneven opportunity for the many untapped opportunities that abound in the area with aggressive infrastructural and human capital development.
In his remodeling approach to rescue families in Okpoko and other suburbs, ndi-Anambra are enjoined to work together to build upon the already established foundations of the state’s founding fathers to create that enjoyable homeland.
Solution is COMING.
