The strategic importance of Anambra to have a modernized Government house and Governor’s lodge is immense, it is also a response to the people’s yearning that the state merit a befitting legacy project, at age, 31.
On August 27 this year, Anambra state will celebrate its 31st anniversary as a state but without a proper Government house and a Governor’s lodge -possibly the only State with such record.
In response to the above, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has made a proposal in the revised 2022 budget waiting for the approval by the Anambra lawmakers, to construct a new government building that will raise the status of the state that was created in 1991 but has not equipped state-of-the-art facilities that would provide conveniences for state officials and their official assignments.
Having re-assured his readiness to make bold footprints in building the infrastructure sector, it has become imperative to erect a befitting facility in line with others.
Recall it was Navy Cpt Joseph Abulu administration (Military Era August 27, 1991 – December 1991) that acquired erected structures and premises housing the then Anambra State College of Education, Awka, as a temporary government administrative office.
The premises were before the advent of the College of Education used as a worksyard (camp) of Lodijiana Road Construction Company, the company that constructed Enugu-Awka-Onitsha Express Way.
The structure at the old government station Awka (now Amawbia) originally meant for the Chief Judges quarters was converted by the military government to a temporary Governor’s lodge.
