A final-year student of Federal University, Dutse, Aminu Muhammad has been released from prison after posting an offensive tweet against the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari on Twitter.
He was arrested by the police on November 18 over a tweet that appeared to mock Mrs. Aisha Buhari.
The tweet, which was posted on June 8, reads: “Su mama anchi kudin talkawa ankoshi.” which means Mama has eaten poor people’s money and is now full.
The arrest led to a full scale reaction on social media from Nigerians demanding for his release.
They accused the Federal Government of having the technology to track and pick him easily because he expressed his thoughts over the First Lady on Twitter but can’t track and pick up bandits, kidnappers and Terrorists who make use of mobile devices to negotiate ransom with families of their victims.
His arrest however, elicited mixed reactions with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) apologising to Mrs. Buhari over the tweet.
He had been arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded at Suleja prison in Niger State.
Aminu was charged with Cybercrime, Cybersquatting, Computer Related Forgery, Conspiracy and Criminal Breach of Trust.
