Chelsea made a club-record signing. Enzo Fernandez has spoken about his Premier League debut and expressed gratitude to the Stamford Bridge crowd.
The 22-year-old only had a few days between arriving in London and making his debut, owing primarily to Chelsea’s lack of midfield options due to an injury crisis.
However, as Graham Potter described, Fernandez’s Chelsea career got off to a great start.
The game ended in a 0-0 draw, but the former River Plate star was arguably one of the best performers on the field.
On social media, the midfielder has spoken out about his debut.
“Very pleased with the group’s effort,” Argentina’s international wrote on Instagram.
“It is not the result we wanted, but let’s keep working for the good results to come.
“Thank you for your warm welcome and support last night!” I am overjoyed for my debut and to be a Blue!
“Thank you very much, God!”
Fernandez excelled as a holding midfielder, making six tackles and winning nine duels over the course of 90 minutes.
He accomplished all of this while committing no fouls.
It’ll be interesting to see what he can do in a free role with another defensive midfielder.
Fernandez is a good playmaker who has five assists for Benfica this season, in addition to being an excellent ball-winning midfielder.
