The 2.17Km single carriage construction of the Niger Bridge Head to Sokoto Road Junction and the channelization of the Nwangene Stream to River Niger, which are being carried out by Mr. Jay Bee of Tec Engineering Nigeria LTD, have been flagged off and inspected by Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo.
However, he complained to the contractor, Mr. Jay Bee, that his pace of work is extremely slow at 0.5%, claiming that the road should be between 10% and 12% complete by this point because he has already invested two months in a road that is supposed to be finished in 18 months.
In the presence of everyone, Soludo questioned the Contractor about his ability to deliver while admonishing him that he wouldn’t accept any justifications.
The people were given assurance by Governor Soludo that he would inspect the work once more by the end of the following month and issue the Contractor Handover Site Certificate if he’s satisfied, but that if there was no improvement, he would be forced to terminate the contract and request the services of a different contractor.
He reminded them of his promises to the people that if they supported him for Governor, he would fix the road. He also described how he had visited Fegge, Onitsha, Main Market, and Ose to inform them that he was well-versed in Onitsha South.
Reflecting on how the City of Onitsha was initially planned and developed by white people with sound drainage systems, it appeared that Onitsha’s fame was waning as Asaba was rising. He assured them that Onitsha would rise again.
Soludo expressed his gratitude to the residents of Onitsha for electing him Governor in the gubernatorial election.
He stated that APGA’s motto is “onye aghana nwanne ya,” and that starting from the day he was sworn in, he worked for more than 8 hours straight. The following day, he was at Okpoko to assess the condition of the roads.
“The quality of the roads we are constructing is unparalleled in ndi Anambra. It will have a stone base, stabilizing cement, and layers of asphalt with a 20-year warranty “said Soludo.
“The people must play their part if Onitsha is to rise up and regain its glory. A program to clean up our drainages is starting now. We want Anambra to be the nation’s cleanest state.
Soludo continued, “We are planning a system to start picking up waste from house to house.”
He appreciated the fifteen wards in Onitsha South for voting for APGA and said in the upcoming election, they should cast their ballots for APGA in their large numbers.
When welcoming the Governor to Fegge, the TC Chairman for Onitsha South, Engr. Ogochukwu Ekwueme, said he first noticed the poor condition of the road when he was in primary school. He added that God has declared that during his administration, he will use Governor Soludo to repair the road.
According to Hon. Barr. Uzoma Eli, APGA candidate for Onitsha South 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Soludo is the first Governor of Anambra State to complete more than 265 kilometers of roads and hire 5000 people in less than a year in office.
Onitsha South 2 APGA candidate, Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Asanya complained to Governor Soludo about Odoakpu road, which has nine connected lanes and only up to 4 kilometers. He begged the Governor to step in and fix the road.
Other governments are building china roads, but Governor Soludo is doing roads with 20-year warranty according to Hon. Edward Ibuzo, APGA Candidate for Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency
Barr. Sly Ezeokenwa, the Commissioner for Special Duties and a native of Onitsha South, claimed that the Governor’s actions today are unprecedented. He recalled the Governor praising the livability and prosperity of Onitsha South of the 1980s. He stated that the Governor had pledged to bring Onitsha back to its former glory.
The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, APGA Publicity Secretary, Tex Okechukwu, HM Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe (Obi of Onitsha), Anambra State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Hon. Emeka Udodili, ASMATA Chairman, Chief Humphrey Anuna amongst others attended the event.
